The Werewolf Lives!
A Horror Comic Anthology by Nicholas Aaron Hodge and K. M. Lightfoot
For years, Kaleb and I have debated the subject of the “best” monster in the Horror genre, and have always settled on a mutual affinity for the moon-sick creature of folkloric origin, The Werewolf!
So when we began discussing the idea of collaborating together on a book project- naturally we turned to ideas and stories that inspired and left a lasting impression on us, which meant turning to the Horror genre, and the longstanding myth that we were eager to explore with our own fresh perspective.
But what exactly is a “Werewolf Anthology?” Well, in our case, this book is an homage to the classic horror magazines of the early 60’s and 70’s that so prominently captured the imagination of horror fans and employed the talents of countless artists, some of which went on to illustrious careers. More importantly, this anthology was a chance for us to create original stories that pay respect to the history of the Werewolf myth but also brave new ground with modern framing and context. In short, we set out to write the best damn Werewolf stories we could and collaborated with the best, most unique, emerging artists we could find to bring them to life.
This anthology is a celebration of the titular creature, but it is also a celebration of independent art and lasting creative partnerships. We are proud to be producing a bold, unique, nostalgic horror book that features art from four different graphic artists from around the world, Renato Zechetto, Wayne Lowdy, Jesusa Diaz, and Joaquin Esposito, in addition to enlightening editorial commentary from our friend, and local Chicago film curator John McDevitt, and an original short fiction story from another longtime creative partner, Sera Rae Young.
